Architecture and the Arts
As the pandemic keeps the dedicated staff away from the beautiful buildings of the Royal Academy, they introduce their activities and ethos that are inter-disciplinary and inter-generational; generous and inclusive. You will get a virtual tour through the Academy’s buildings including an interview with David Chipperfield who completed a recent refurbishment of the extensive site located in Central London. You will see an installation in the Architecture Studio called Invisible Landscapes: Act III that looked at how virtual-reality technologies are transforming how we design, look at, and interact with the world around us. You will see the lecture theatre that has hosted major lectures and debates, but also performances and interventions. And be given a sneak-peek into hidden spaces not normally seen by the public. We hope you enjoy it!

The Royal Academy of Arts was founded over 250 years ago as an autonomous, politically independent, self-funded place to create, debate and exhibit the visual arts and architecture. It is governed by a General Assembly of Britain's most highly esteemed artists and architects including Tracey Emin, Anish Kapoor, David Hockney, Farshid Moussavi, Norman Foster and Richard Rogers. Architecture has a central place in the RA's collection, education and exhibition programmes. The world-leading exhibition programme has seen ground-breaking shows such as Foster, Rogers, Stirling (1986), Living Bridges (1996) and more recently Richard Rogers (2013), Sensing Spaces (2014) Renzo Piano and Eco-Visionaries (2019). A dynamic and unique Architecture Programme explores architecture at the intersection of the arts through commissions, installation, debates, and activations.
